The Music Igniter

Description A training and creative music programme aimed at igniting creative music activities in West Midlands schools, The Music Igniter is one of the most ambitious professional development programmes ever to bring together the formal and non-formal music sectors together in the region. Led by acclaimed trainer Phil Mullen, it will:-

-Intensively train together 10 teachers and 10 self-employed music leaders

-Equip them to work together in designing and delivering music activities with young people in schools, with a focus on creating new music across all genres

-Provide a framework for the creation of projects in schools, with young people involved in generating high quality new music

The 10 teachers (and schools) for the programme have been selected by Creative Partnerships in Birmingham, Coventry and Stoke-on-Trent. We now seek 10 self-employed music leaders (i.e. anyone leading music activities with young people) from across the West Midlands, to train alongside the teachers and collaborate with them in delivering major projects in participating schools. The training will focus on different techniques for making new music, as well as wider issues around participative music in the classroom, such as session planning and behaviour management. There will also be a substantial Music Igniter 'project fund', to which programme participants will be invited to apply.

-Participants will need experience in delivering music workshops

-There is no course fee, and project fees will be paid for music leaders
