| Description | This one day workshop aims to equip participants with both the skills and the confidence to use music and singing in the classroom working with children with special educational needs. The focus is on practical activities designed to help children with key skills such as communication, eye contact, turn taking, motor skills, participation, relaxation and social skills. Teachers will benefit from an effective and adaptable toolkit, ready to use straight away in the classroom. Children will love the fun activities and songs that you learn and use in the classroom and other settings. No musical experience necessary and suitable for all levels. In addition to the above the day will also include: How to use inexpensive and easily accessible props, books, puppets, instruments and more as a stimuli for creating songs and compositions How to integrate all the senses and the whole body in making and enjoying music together. Strategies to encourage sense of self, eye contact, improve communication and reduce repetitive behaviour. Singing in the classroom: learning a range of songs throughout the day. From crossing the road, to making new friends, they're all simple to learn, easy to use and come in a variety of styles. Relaxation and breathing techniques Sound effects and picture cards to improve sequencing Using ICT to record the children’s voices and other sounds to make compositions and soundscapes. The sessions will also contain time for practice, reflection and discussion in a relaxed and safe environment. |
